Founder origin · personal recollection
Before there was a Foundation, there was a call to gather people.
This early chapter is preserved from the Founder’s recollection. The original Global Youth Alliance page has not yet been recovered.
Around 2008–2009, while preparing to enter university, Nawwaf Lamin Abass listened repeatedly to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” address. Barack Obama’s historic rise and 2009 inaugural address gave further expression to a conviction already forming: people could be organized around service and a larger purpose.
He remembers creating an early Facebook effort called Global Youth Alliance (GYA)—an unpolished first attempt to call young people together and turn ideas into action. Years later, during medical training, the call to join science, technology and public purpose remained a source of direction.
An early Foundation name also joined the names of his parents, Abass and Saratu, as “ABSA.” The name evolved, but the personal inheritance did not: faith, family, health, education and service would belong in the same work.
